The Will Sweeny Story

Los Angeles, 1993: Being blessed in his mother’s womb by music legend Little Richard was how Will Sweeny’s career and life began when the icon placed his hands on her pregnant stomach in a hotel lobby and shouted, ‘God bless this child, Lord!’

English through and through, but with such a life blessing linking him to the U.S., it’s no wonder Will has gone on to perform his music around the world and has returned to Los Angeles to record his debut solo venture.

Will hails from Cheshire, England, where he would spend hours hitting upturned pans with wooden spoons as soon as he was old enough to sit up. His love of music and drumming had begun. He got his first set of drums as a child and studied music in college. There, he formed his first band, “White Eskimo,” playing drums, and his music career took off in the U.K.

Will soon became the group’s frontman and went on to perform his music in England’s hottest venues, including The 02 Arena in London, Brixton Academy, and his packed and extended residencies at the infamous Cavern Club. Will has now made the exciting move State-side as a debut solo artist to fulfill! He has opened for top groups, including The Jam, and has appeared regularly across National television and radio, including The BBC and ITV. Will even brought his previous band to L.A. and entered the live scene at the top with an opening show at The Whiskey and a resounding demand for more U.S. shows…

Here’s Will’s teaser video featuring his new track ‘Missing You,’ inspired by his friend @greycoutts artwork. All of the art behind Will was painted by Grey.

He has spent his time during quarantine honing the music he has always wanted most to create and writing new songs for his album release. Will shared about his new solo music, “I want to bend marketing rules, break the usual boxes people try to tick when classifying a new artist. My influences are everything from Elvis Presley to Guns N’ Roses, and that shows in my sound and writing.” Will says about his live shows, “I like to knock people off their feet with the electricity of performing, make them want the night never to end. My stage act is all about fun, showmanship, and connection.”

Prescription ‘Steak & Chardonnay Challenge’ Creates Delicious Intrigue at SOBEWFF

Prescription 'Steak & Chardonnay Challenge' Creates Delicious Intrigue at SOBEWFF

As you may have heard, Prescription Vineyards crashed the South Beach Food & Wine Festival’s Steak & Whiskey party hosted by Chef Michael Symon. We demonstrated how our Clarksburg Chardonnay pairs beautifully with steak. Our higher acidity (more than most California Chardonnays), cuts through the fat of steak while its lush mouthfeel matches the rich texture of the meat.

We had one chef comment that our Alexander Valley Cabernet was a beautiful compliment to the steaks, which interacts more like a sauce, while our Chardonnay was a refreshing palate cleanser between bites. He compared it to eating sushi and refreshing between bites with pickled ginger.

“We were excited to be approached at the next day’s Wine Spectator Grand Trade Tasting by people asking if we were the Chardonnay that went great with steak,” said Director of Sales Greg Moore. “When we confessed, they said people were talking about what a great experience it was.” We’re still grinning.

Below we share a photo gallery of the night with pics from us and WorldRedEye.com.

Prescription is the Exclusive Wine Sponsor of Steak & Whiskey Hosted by Chef Michael Symon

Yes, you heard that right, Prescription Vineyards is crashing the Steak & Whiskey party hosted by Chef Michael Symon at the South Beach Food & Wine Festival this February. We’ll demonstrate how our Clarksburg Chardonnay pairs beautifully with steak. Our higher acidity (more than most California Chardonnays) cuts through the fat of the steak while its lush mouthfeel matches the rich texture of the meat.

Talk to northern Italians, they’ve been drinking white wine with steak for centuries. The tradition: finish your steak with a squeeze of lemon and a sprinkle of sea salt. Just like a sip of Prescription Chardonnay, the acidity of the lemon nicely contrasts the fat in steak and helps break down the collagen, giving the meat a balanced flavor profile and a succulent bite. The sprinkle of sea salt intensifies aromas, balances other flavors, makes the meat taste juicier, and increases tenderness while making your wine taste softer and more luscious.

The Steak & Whiskey event is part of the Miami Design District Event Series. This walk-around event will sizzle when more than 20 of the country’s greatest chefs come together to dish out their highest quality steak bites, paired perfectly with whiskey cocktails from the Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits portfolio…and Prescription Vineyards Chardonnay! The event takes place at the iconic Jungle Plaza and celebrates the Design District’s innovative fashion, architecture, design, and world-class dining.

‘FRIDAY-EVE LIVE’ Features The UK’s ‘Waiting for Smith’ on AUGUST 26 – A VIRTUAL MUSICAL SHOWCASE!

Friday-Eve Live features Waiting for Smith
We’re big fans of Harry Lloyd, a.k.a., ‘Waiting for Smith’ (no direct relation confirmed yet). We love the upbeat vibe of his song, ‘Long Life.’ Here’s a taste of the lyrics, “Thinking about what you said the other day, ‘The way I act the things I do, how I behave, Would I be here if you hadn’t walked my way…’ Now hit play for the full story!

Our August 26, Prescription’s ‘Friday-Eve Live’ showcase bridges The Pond to bring you the UK’s ‘Waiting for Smith’ from his home studio. Formerly a ski instructor in the French Alps, Harry Lloyd, a.k.a. ‘Waiting for Smith’ broke his back in two places during avalanche training. Wondering whether he’d survive in the helicopter on the way to the hospital, Lloyd had an epiphany that he should dedicate his life to music if he were ok. After spending a year in bed recuperating and learning to play guitar, he formed Waiting For Smith, named after endlessly waiting for their original drummer Smith, who continually failed to show up.

Fascinated by change, Lloyd’s music is inspired by the ability we all have to evolve ourselves for the better. He shares, “I’m also a hopeless romantic, so a lot of my songs focus on the different angles on love.” The musician confides in how music is like a free form of therapy and hopes to bring a similar liberating feeling of comfort and emotion to make listeners smile and sometimes cry.

Waiting For Smith has seen success garnering over 414K streams on Spotify, 100K YouTube views, 20K Facebook followers, and almost 40K Shazams – as well as landing radio play on more than 180 stations around the world. With features in British GQ, Rolling Stone India, MTV Germany, Clash Magazine, Earmilk, and Holland’s JFK Magazine, Waiting For Smith’s mission is to engulf the world with unforgettable melodies spreading a much-needed message of positivity.
